Also referred to as Ultrasound, or Ultrasonography or USG
What is it?
Ultrasound scans use sound waves to build up a picture of the inside of the body. They are completely painless. The ultrasound scanner has a probe which gives off sound waves. The probe is passed over your body. The sound waves bounce off the organs inside your body, and are picked up again by the probe. The probe is linked to a computer. This turns the reflected sound waves into a picture.
“Ultrasound” merely means sound waves with a frequency higher than 20 kHz, which is the highest range that the average human can hear. Modern sonography equipment utilizes these high frequency sound waves to create high resolution images of the inside of the human body from soft tissues to organs.
Ultrasound uses no radiation – unlike CT Scan and X-Ray – and is therefore the preferred method for viewing a developing fetus during pregnancy. The test is completely comfortable and safe.
At Sirona, we have latest generation ultrasound equipment to provide the best and widest range of diagnostic services, from obstetrics to imaging of almost all body parts and Doppler examinations. The department is equipped with high resolution USG machines with 3D and 4D imaging systems. We have established ourselves as one of the best Sonography centers in the Prabhadevi, Dadar, Parel and Worli areas, with highly experienced doctors and the best equipment.
Colour Doppler Studies
Colour Doppler is a special type of Sonography that allows the doctor to examine blood flow through arteries and veins in the arms and legs, neck and abdomen, within various organs and within the brain in infants.
Preparation for the Test
The radiologist will verify your exam requested.
The preparation for this test will depend on the type of ultrasound procedure your doctor has ordered. Some preparations include drinking water before the test to obtain better images.
During the test
The radiologist and nurse will position you on the exam table/bed and give you instructions.
A small amount of water-soluble gel is applied to the skin over the area to be examined.
A hand-held instrument (probe) is placed against the gel on your body. This instrument will be moved across the area being examined.
After the Test
If you are going home, you may resume normal activities.
At Sirona, we conduct a wide range of sonography tests including:
Whole Abdomen Sonography (USG Abdomen + Pelvis)
Pregnancy or Obstetric Sonography: –
Early Pregnancy or Dating Scan or Viability Scan.
NT scan (Nuchal Tube).
